Top 10 Foods to Avoid

Acknowledging that avoiding certain foods are a positive path towards success, individuals should learn what foods are successful and unsuccessful for their own unique diets. As a guideline, I have provided a list that explains what foods are eliminated or limited from my own diet and why these foods are known as diet killers.

1. Mayonnaise
Like it or not, those that are overweight need to entirely cut this food out. Being that it's a 100% fat, there is not one good thing about this condiment. Remember, when using mayonnaise, the individual is consuming pure fat into the body that directly goes to the gut, butt, or add your own ideal place. Does your food really need that extra zest?

2. Chips
Being a fond lover of Mexican food, I'm Hispanic damnit, chips are horrible for diets. A lot of diets allow chips in moderation, yet with over half its calories as fat, cut them out. When eating at Mexican restaurants, or my favorite, the Taqueria, ask the waiter not to bring chips to the table. Also, be wary of the reduced fat or no fat chips. Those are safer to eat, but I found that what Lays says is true "You just can't eat one!" A lot of people consume chips out of mere boredom, which perplexes me, or out of a need for a quick fix. Grab a piece of fruit, or gulp, eat a vegetable.

3. Beer and Alcohol
Not a lot of required thought here, but alcohol is horrible for diets. Yet moderation is the key here, for if a person consumes about two beers a week its no problem. Unfortunately, in the real world, most people consume two beers in one day or worse yet several times a week. Alcohol has 7 grams of fat per gram, you might as well be drinking ice-cream shakes! Light beer does not really help for alcohol, no matter what, has 7 grams of fat per gram. Here is a calorie count of several beers I have consumed:

Beer Calorie Counts (under constant research and revision)

Miller Light

88

Bud Light

110

Corona

149

Budweiser

159

Becks

140

For those that most drink, try hard liquor instead of beer. It keeps the job done a lot quicker and the person will save a lot of calories. Or even better, when dieting, do not drink any alcohol. Despite what a lot of people say, live can be lived without alcohol.

4. Fast Food
Avoid at all costs. No matter what lifestyle people live, do not eat fast food. No matter how busy life becomes, it only takes a few minutes to prepare or take healthy foods in place of getting that quick alternative at Jack in the Box. Most fast food joints are about 1000 calories or more in one meal! That is half of most people's daily intake in one meal!

5. Butter
Another simple pleasure that plaques dieters. A lot of people think bread is the enemy, it is not, what is the enemy is what goes on the bread. Butter is over half fat calories per serving. A lot of fat can be reduced from a diet if the individual just avoids buttering foods. Even when cooking, do not use butter. Imagine eggs in the morning without eggs, or for that matter even toast. Removing butter almost entirely from a person's diet increases the ability to live without this simple pleasure.

6. Limit Sweets
We all want to eat ice-cream, sugars, cake, etc. That is fine, be realistic in your goals, but keep in mind these are "empty calories" and provides no nutritional value. Keep this fact in mind while eating your favorite desserts, "Do you eat it because you need it, or do you want it?" Yet, it is fine to consume a "bad" food once a week or on the weekends if you are doing hard cardio. For instance, in my situation, I had cake two days in a row, it did not affect my diet at all with the proper training and monitoring of my cardio.

7. No Fried Food
I challenge a lot of people on this little fact, but in reality this is a very easy task accomplish in Texas. With the advent of the George Foreman grill, barbecue pits, and fancy ovens eating healthy is very easy; however, people still opt for fried foods. Instead of fried chicken, think baked or grilled chicken. For that matter, choose anything baked over fried. Not only are the calories reduced almost in half, your body will feel better without those cloggy fats holding you down.

8. For God's Sake, Take off the Skin!
Did you know that the skin of the chicken has more calories and fat than the meat inside the chicken? A lot of people are just too lazy to take the five minutes to remove the skin. Although fatty foods taste great, eating foods without the skin reduce the calories and fat almost in half. Remember next time you have that barbecue to take off the skin before cooking.

9. Water?
A lot of people do not realize how many extra calories are consumed from drinking everything but water. This amazing substance, that your body cannot live without, has zero calories! Drinking that soda water is a whooping 140 calories and 39 grams of sugar!

10. Food that is more than 1/3 Fat
Learn to read those nutrition facts. Just about all food has fat, yet that is not a bad thing because the body does need fat. But what most people do not realize is the proper amount of fat the body needs on a daily basis. Easily, individuals consume foods that are loaded with entirely too much fat when in reality all it takes for success is being able to read a label. For example:

Type of Food
Total Calories
Fat Calories
Verdict
Beans 110 10 Good
Cereal 140 20 Good
No Fat Yogurt 90 0 Great
Chips 160 70 Bad
Mayonnaise 60 60 Horrible
