As
with modern day Christianity, the Ancient Egyptians placed the decreased
into a coffin. The mummified remains were carefully placed within
a wooden coffin or as with the pharaohs, placed into a stone sarcophagus,
and placed within the tomb. Some burials featured multiple coffins
within the Sarcophagus, as in the case of King Tutankhamen. These
coffins were also painted with spells and the name of the departed.
