Releasing the KA Ceremony

In front of the tomb's entrance, before it was sealed, the priests did an "opening of the mouth" ceremony. This was a symbolic representation of releasing the Ka on its journey to the Hall of Judgment. During this ritual, the priest would touch various body parts with a specialized instrument that would open up a particular body part that was needed for the afterlife. The mouth was obviously touched because the decreased would need to be able to communicate and eat in the afterworld. Spells were also read from the book of the dead and then the body was placed into the coffin/coffins and moved into the tomb and then sealed for immortality.
