Egyptians
believed that the "Ka," or the life-force of a human being,
was created at birth alongside the body. After the individual expires,
the Ka then leaves the body to be judged by Osiris, the god of the
dead. The Ka was the Egyptian equivalent of the Christian Soul with
several differences. According to Ancient Egyptians, the Ka was
an entity that needed a physical counterpart to co-exist and relate
with for eternity, hence the need of a body and or statutes. If
the body and all other likenesses, such as statutes and other objects,
were damaged beyond recognition, the Ka would become lost and the
spirit would not find its eternal peace. Another original concept
was that food and beverage must be given as an offering to the spirit,
in that, the departed loved ones needed substance and drink to survive
forever.
