This book was placed with the dead and was used a guarantee that Osiris would declare the soul "True of Voice" and the Ka could then pass the judgment. The book of the dead was a papyrus scroll that contained roughly 200 spells. These spells were recited by the priests over the dead person during the wrapping process and throughout the entire ritual and then placed within the tomb, sometimes inside the bandages of the mummy or within wooden statues. These spells, contained in the book, helps the Ka during the journey to meet Osiris and aided the spirit during the weighing of the heart.
